FOTD with Ayanna

This picture is from back in Feburary. My friend and fellow makeup artist Ayanna came over so that we could play with some of the new goodies that I picked up at IMATS in November. I always like to test out new products on myself, friends and family before using it on clients so that I can get a better feel for how they apply and what techniques work best with what product.

The products that we were testing out for the FOTD were Faceatelier’s 0++ foundation (used to contour), Temptu S/B Airbrush Foundations (hand applied), and assorted Yaby eye shadows.

I was really happy with the outcome  especially with how well the Temptu S/B foundations apply manually, but a little bit disappointed with the 0++ foundation. In playing around with it, I discovered that it works amazing as either a foundation or when used as a contour but that it’s a little bit too blue-toned to be used with the other Faceatelier foundations to make them darker. I’ve been meaning to see if I was to add a little bit of heat to it what would happen but I just haven’t had the chance to play with it; I’ll update later on the outcome of that experiment.

Glitter FOTD

This post is a tad bit late, but better late than never.

Nothing says holidays better then some glitter. This past Christmas, I decided to try out the MUFE Glitter that I purchased quite some time ago. The look above is what I wore out to dinner with friends after Boxing Day. I couldn’t find my glitter primer so I used so eye lash glue instead and found the overall result to be not as good as when I use the primer.

Here’s what I used to create this look:

Brushes: Sigma F82 Round Top Kabuki, ELF Studio Blush Brush, MAC 242, Crown Brush C139, Sigma E20

Face: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in NC 50, Estee Lauder Stay-in-Place concealer in deep, MUFE Super Matte Loose Powder in 36, MAC Mineralized Blush in Love Joy, CoverFX Skin Prep Primer.

Eyes: MUFE Glitter in #6, MAC e/s in Typographic, mark. No Place to Run eyeliner in Jet Set, Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara in Extreme Black, MAC Lithe Pigment (LE)

Here’s a close-up of my eye. I love the way the glitter sparkles.

Christmas FOTD

This is the look that I wore to go to dinner with my family.  Because I had a brighter look on the day before (Christmas Eve), I wanted to go with something a little bit more subdued, yet classic at the same time. It also gave me a chance to try out another one of my new paint pots that I picked up from the Cham Pale collection.

Here’s what I use to achieve this look:

Brushes: Sigma F82, Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush, Sigma E30, Sigma E40, Elegant Faces Medium Shadow Brush, ELF Studio Blush Brush.

Face: CoverFX SkinPrep FX primer, MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in NC50, Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Concealer in deep, MAC Mineralized Blush in Love Joy.

Eyes: Mary Kay Eye Primer, MAC Paint Pot in Let Me Pop, MAC e/s in Arena(lid), Corduroy(crease),  Dark brown shadow from the Cargo Bronze Essential Palette, Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink, Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara in Extreme Black.

Lips: CoverFX MintGlaze FX, Annabelle Lip liner in Cherry, MAC lipstick in Brave Red, MAC lipstick in Diva.

FOTD: Beautiful Bronze

I’ve really been into bronze and gold tones for eye shadows and blushes these past few months. They’re really easy to put together and you always look polished and fresh. I believe that this was the look that I wore out to the Elle Event near the end of April.

What are some of your favourite bronze or gold must have items for summer?

Annabelle Goodies

This post is long overdue. A few weeks ago or so, I received a lovely box of Annabelle Goodies to try. Included in the box were:

Annabelle mineral Powder Foundation in Barely Beige
Annabelle mineral Blush in Sugar Rush
Annabelle mineral Powder Bronzer in Terra
Annabelle mineral Pigment Dust in Violet Vibe
Annabelle Makeup Pro A-12 Blush Brush Round
Annabelle Volumelip Lip Plumping Gloss in Cherryoke & Sweet Treat

The first thing that caught my eye was the blush brush. I’ve used Annabelle’s makeup brushes before and I really like them; especially the eye shadow brushes and this brush is no exception. It’s so soft and I really like using it for applying my powder foundation. It’s also the perfect size for my purse should I need to do any touch-ups. The next thing that caught my eye was the eye shadow in Violet Vibe. Violet Vibe is such a beautiful colour and I love the purple/blue duochrome look that it gives off; it’s perfect for a smokey eye.
I was a little worried about trying the blush as I had noticed that it contains Bismouth Oxychloride but was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t make my face itch and get hot like that other brand does. I really like the lip glosses too; especially Cherryoke. They’re not sticky and feel really nice and moisturizing on the lips. Although the current packaging for the lip glosses aren’t ideal, but am looking forward to the new and improved packaging when it hits the stores later this summer.

These products were sent to me for consideration only by Groupe Marcelle. All opinions expressed in this post are my own.

Not Myself Tonight Inspired FOTD

I love Christina Augilera and for some reason, I can’t seem to get enough of her new song. The makeup in the video is killer and I decided that I wanted to give a few of them a try. One of the looks that really caught my eye was the yellow eye with the red lips. I wanted to try this look first because it would give me a chance to play with my Annabelle Studio Pigment in LOL. I used MAC’s Patina to highlight on the brow bone and around the inner tear duct.
For me, LOL is kind of hard to wear as I find that it can blend into my skin tone so for this look I had to use a good base. I started with the ELF Mineral Eye Primer and then set that with a few light dustings of MAC Chrome Yellow. After that, I packed on LOL until I got the color payoff that I wanted. I then lined my eyes with MUFE waterproof cream liner in Black and applied several coats of Giorgio Armani’s Eyes to Kill mascara. On my cheeks is Milani’s blush in Mai Tai and on my lips I have NYX lipstick in Hebe with a light dab of a clear gloss and a pinch of Annabelle’s Studio Pigment in Magentini.

Makeup Adventures with Viki

Last Friday, my girl Viki came over for a makeup play date. I recently ordered some goodies from Faceatelier and from Camera Ready Cosmetics that I wanted to test out: the HD Cream Blush palette from Graftobian, Faceatelier Foundation #1 and the Ultra Sheers.

I carry the evens in the Faceaftelier foundations in my kit and I wanted to know what the odd foundation shades looked like compared to the colours that I mix. As you can see in the picture above, Viki is really pale and it can be quite difficult to find a good foundation match for her. I took out my sample of Faceatelier foundation in #1 as well as Zero Minus in case I needed to make it lighter. I was very surprised and excited that I didn’t need to lighten the foundation; it was a really good match. I was also really impressed with the HD Cream Blushes from Graftobian. They are so creamy and blend out really easily. A little bit goes a long way with these babies.

Here’s what I used:

Face:
Embroylisse Lait Creme Concentre
Nurturing Force Blot Out Offensive
Faceatelier Ultra Pro Foundation #1
Faceatelier Ultra Sheer in Champagne
Graftobian HD Crem Blush Palette – Vienna Rose
MUFE HD Powder to set
MAC Blush in Melba

Eyes:
MAC Paint Pot in Fresco Rose
MAC e/s in Seedy Pearl, Fig 1
Urban Decay e/s in Flash
Loreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Black

Lips:
OCC Lip Tar in Grandma
OCC Lip Tar in Hush

Alison’s Wedding Consultation

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of doing a wedding consultation for Alison who is getting married in June. Alison told me that she doesn’t wear makeup on a day-to-day basis and that she really wanted to keep the look soft, pretty and natural.
The key to this makeup was to find a foundation that would give good coverage but look soft and natural. For the eyes, I wanted to bring out the green in her hazel eyes and I think that I was able to achieve that with the colour selection. Here’s what I used:

Face:
MAC Face & Body Foundation in C2 – I layered the foundation to cover the redness around the nose and chin.
Mary Kay Conceraler in Light mixed with Jordane concealer 5-P/M-3 and Embrolysse moisturizer (applied under the eyes)
MUFE HD Primer
MUFE HD Powder
Embrolysse Moisturizer
MAC Melba & Gingerly blushes

Eyes:
MAC Paint in Bare Canvas
MAC e/s in Seedy Pearl(lids), Soba(crease) and Blanc Type
MAC Lingering brow pencil to lightly fill in brows
Brown eyeliner smudged into the upper lash-line only

Lips:
MAC Subculture lipliner
MAC High Tea lipstick
MAC Lusterglass lip gloss in Love Nectar
