How Natural is Natural?

Today I read an interesting article entitled ” The Great Pretenders” in the October issue of Flare Magazine. The article talked about how a product that has been labeled with the word “natural” on it, doesn’t mean that the product is. Research conducted by an environmental marketing company based in Ottawa call TerraChoice found that of all the products on the shelves in store, cosmetics were among the worse offenders for making misleading green claims. Furthermore, just because a product may be natural that doesn’t mean that it won’t irritate your skin.

Now, I’ve been on both sides of the fence as I’ve used products that contain natural ingredients as well as ones that don’t. I’d have to say that there are natural products that have made my face itch and burn like you wouldn’t believe but on the same hand, I’ve also had products that were not so natural so the same thing. I think that it comes down to is your skin and how sensitive you are. I have allergies and one of the things that I’m allergic to is ragweed. Well I found out after I had experienced a reaction from a natural product that I was trying out that it contained chamomile ~ which is a cousin, if you will, of ragweed.

So, I throw it to you. What is your take on natural products? Do you like them, love them? Or is it just marketing hype? Let me know, in the comments below.

Let’s Discuss: How Much is Enough?

I recently read an article in the May edition of InStyle magazine called How much is enough? The article was talking about the products that we use for our hair, face and body and that fact that most times, we use way too much of our products and that it is the overuse of said products, that leads to breakouts, clogged pores and skin irritation (when using serums). From the looks of it, we should be using somewhere between a dime and a quarter sized amount of products such as cleansers, moisturizers, shampoo etc. Serums should be about the size of your pinky nail (I’m going by the pictures, the article didn’t specify exact sizes for all of the products listed). There are two products that we should be using more of, body lotion and sunscreen(on the body only); which should be the amount to fill a shot glass.
Do you agree? I’d love to hear your thought on this.

Let’s Discuss: QOTW

If you could develop your own line of skincare what types of products would you include in the line?
