Carmindy: Crazy Busy Beautiful

Last Tuesday, I went to the Indigo at The Eaton Centre to see Carmindy talk about her new book, answer questions and sign copies of her latest book Crazy Busy Beautiful. I have to admit that I love Carmindy and she was the main reason that I tuned into What Not To Wear.
I arrived early so that I could hopefully get a seat. Carmindy was fashionably late and spent a few minutes talking about her work on the show and a bit about her career in makeup before answering audience questions.

Crazy Busy Beautiful is a pocket version of The 5 Minute Face and Get Positivly Beautiful combined. Every thing is broken down into easy-to-read sections for face, eyes, blush etc. It also includes beauty tips from women of all ages; some of them are a little far fetched so beware.
Carmindy is so beautiful in person; she looked flawless. Apparently she used makeup from her Sally Hansen Natural Beauty inspired by Carmindy line. She’s trying to get the line into Shoppers and suggested that we all write to Shoppers telling them that we want the line in Canada. I’d be very interested in trying out the line; Carmindy said that we wanted professional quality products at a reasonable price and that she worked with the scientists/chemists at Sally Hansen to create this line.

This was my favourite part. I was so nervous and could barely speak; I felt like such an idiot lol; I really need to restock my blotting papers though :D

About Face

I finally got my hands on a copy of this book by Scott Barnes. There is a wealth of information in this book and I’ve enjoyed reading this book and the transformations in here are amazing. I’ve been trying out his technique for glowing skin. What I really appreciate about this book is that it shows looks on various different skin tones. While there are a couple of transformations that I don’t particularly care for, overall this is a pretty good book. It covers a wide range of things like brushes and skin care and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Later this week, I’ll show you how I’ve interpreted Scott’s method of makeup application.
This book isn’t a must have, but it’s a great addition for any collector out there. Oh and if you didn’t already know, Scott Barnes has a YouTube Channel. His tutorial for a smokey eye is to dye for.

The Learning Continues

I love reading, especially when the book is about makeup. A few weeks ago, I picked up the Jemma Kidd Makeup Masterclass book to add to my ever growing collection. What I really like about this book is that it’s easy to read and understand. I also like that it covers skincare basics. I’ve said this so many times in some of my posts but a great makeup application really does start with great skin. I’ve worked on clients that don’t take care of their skin properly or at all and the makeup application was patchy and uneven. There are some great looks in this book as well. I don’t think that this book is a must have but it is a nice addition for those who collect makeup books like I do.

Also, a few weeks ago I attended a makeup workshop on makeup for mature skin and I brought my mother-in-law as my model. This workshop was amazing and I learned so much about how to apply makeup on skin that isn’t as firm as it used to be. I forgot to bring my camera but I will be making over my mother-in-law again some time during the holidays so I’ll be sure to post a before and after.
