My New Favourite Setting Powder

Over the holidays, I picked up the MUFE Super Matte Loose Powder, and I have to say that I have found a new love. The shade the I bought is 36 Orange Beige. This powder is amazing. It keeps me from getting too shiny and I find that when I apply a very light layer prior to my foundation, my makeup lasts a lot longer.

This power comes in 16 shades, so everyone will be able to find one that works for them.
According to the MUFE website: “The Super Mat Loose Powders are ultra-fine, ultra-transparent powders. Very light and discreet, they set the make up, even it out and give the complexion a matte and natural finish.”

As with any setting powder application, you want to keep it light; too much powder can age you. My favourite brush to use with this powder is a duo fiber brush because it doesn’t pick up a much product as a powder or blush brush does.

Makeup in a Hurry

The key to applying makeup when you’re pressed for time is to find products and tools that will multitask, that way you can cut down your time and the amount of products you use.

The main thing that you’re going to want to do is to even out your skin tone with either a tinted moisturizer or foundation (liquid or powder) depending on your preference. I find that the best tool for this is your fingers (for liquid foundations) and if needed, you can use a brush (or a sponge) to blend the foundation into the hair line and down your neck.

Cream blushes are also great because you can use your fingers to apply; I find that you get a better application when you use your fingers vs. using a brush. Cream blush will add a subtle colour and make you look fresh. Don’t forget to apply concealer under your eyes. For this I recommend choosing a concealer with warmth to it to brighten up under your eyes and make you look more awake. Buff a light coating of a translucent powder to set liquid foundation, if you’re more on the dry side, you could skip this step or just powder lightly down the t-zone to combat the shine.

My new favourite things are cream eye shadows. Not only can you find them in an assortment of colours but they last all day and some are even waterproof. To apply, you can either use your fingers or a dense but fluffy brush. If you have a bit more time, add a matte eye shadow shade a few tones deeper than your skin tone into your crease for added definition. Skip the liner and add a few coats of a volumizing or lengthening mascara depending on your preference.

Since the rest of the face is fairly subtle, add a medium toned lip gloss or lipstick to the lips to finish off the look.

The tools you choose are just as important as the products. The M.A.C 217 is great for placing and blending both powder and cream eye shadows and blending concealer under the eyes due to the dense yet fluffy bristles.  M.A.C 187 is great for applying liquid and powder foundations and cream and powder blushes.

Glitter FOTD

This post is a tad bit late, but better late than never.

Nothing says holidays better then some glitter. This past Christmas, I decided to try out the MUFE Glitter that I purchased quite some time ago. The look above is what I wore out to dinner with friends after Boxing Day. I couldn’t find my glitter primer so I used so eye lash glue instead and found the overall result to be not as good as when I use the primer.

Here’s what I used to create this look:

Brushes: Sigma F82 Round Top Kabuki, ELF Studio Blush Brush, MAC 242, Crown Brush C139, Sigma E20

Face: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in NC 50, Estee Lauder Stay-in-Place concealer in deep, MUFE Super Matte Loose Powder in 36, MAC Mineralized Blush in Love Joy, CoverFX Skin Prep Primer.

Eyes: MUFE Glitter in #6, MAC e/s in Typographic, mark. No Place to Run eyeliner in Jet Set, Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara in Extreme Black, MAC Lithe Pigment (LE)

Here’s a close-up of my eye. I love the way the glitter sparkles.

EOTD: Purples & Pink

It’s no secret that purple is one of my favourite colours. My new favourite purple eye shadow that I got is MUFE’s infamous #92. This has to be the brightest, most pigmented eye shadow that I own. What I discovered this week is that it a pretty versatille colour. It works really well with more neutral/natural looks as well as more vibrant looks.

Earlier this week, I pared my #92 shadow with MAC’s Paint Pot in Coral Crepe and MAC Stars & Rockets and this is the result that I got.

*Please excuse the oilyness of my forhead. This pic was taken later in the evening and I forgot to blot before snapping the pic.* Using the coral crepe really helped to tone down the intensity of the MUFE #92. It also gave the Stars & Rockets a pinky/purple finish which looked really pretty.

Do you own MUFE’s #92? What’s your favourite way to wear it?

Review: MUFE Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation

I’ve never really been one for dewy foundation; mostly because I have combination to oily skin and by mid day my face rivals a disco ball. I’ve been on the hunt for medium-full coverage foundation for those days when my skin isn’t behaving. A few weeks ago I picked up a tube of the MUFE Mat Velvet + foundation in shade 70.

What MUFE says (taken from the box):
Mat Velvet + evens and matifies the skin tone. Its amino acid coated pigments provide both stability and durability to the makeup. The formula, rich in wheat amidon complex, covers imperfections, neutralizes the shiny areas, and leaves a velvet finish. After the silicone evaporation, its oil-free texture leaves a non-greasy and comfortable finish. Recommended for normal, combination and oily skin types.

What I like about this foundation:
* Covers up all my blemish scars with a minimal amount of product
* It applies easily using a sponge or a brush (I like the MAC 131)
* A little bit goes a very long way
* It doesn’t feel heavy for the coverage that you get.
* It shears out easily when used with a damp brush or sponge
* It’s long wearing
* Has a decent range of shades – from the lightest to the darkest
* Comes in a squeeze tube which helps to keep the foundation hygienic.
* Oil-free and water resistant

What I dislike about this foundation:
*The price – around $40ish CDN + taxes for 30ml
*The tube (at least mine) when first used squeezes out too much product at first.

Overall:
I really like this foundation. It covers well and a little bit really goes a long way. I particularly like that it’s long wearing so if I do happen to get a bit of shine later on in the day, all I have to do is blot; there’s no need for touch ups. What I also like about this foundation is that this is probably the only foundation that doesn’t make me look orange if I do happen to get shiny. Even though it is a bit expensive, I would repurchase this foundation once I run out.

*Note the picture of me was taken at about 8:30pm; I applied my makeup at 6:40am this morning.*

MUFE Face & Body

I had a really rough day, so I treated myself to 3 bags of Kernels popcorn and new foundation. I was looking for something light as I really don’t like full-coverage foundations and see as how I am almost finished my MAC Studio Stick I figured that it would be ok to splurge on a new foundation. I love how this foundation feels on my face and the MA at Sephora advised me that if I needed to, I can build up the coverage. I was looking at the HD foundation but then I remembered that I didn’t like the way that my skin felt when I tried it on and I heard a lot of good things about this foundation. If this foundation lives up to the hype, I’ll be adding this to my kit as an alternative to the Face Atelier foundations that I have.
