EOTD: Purples & Pink

It’s no secret that purple is one of my favourite colours. My new favourite purple eye shadow that I got is MUFE’s infamous #92. This has to be the brightest, most pigmented eye shadow that I own. What I discovered this week is that it a pretty versatille colour. It works really well with more neutral/natural looks as well as more vibrant looks.

Earlier this week, I pared my #92 shadow with MAC’s Paint Pot in Coral Crepe and MAC Stars & Rockets and this is the result that I got.

*Please excuse the oilyness of my forhead. This pic was taken later in the evening and I forgot to blot before snapping the pic.* Using the coral crepe really helped to tone down the intensity of the MUFE #92. It also gave the Stars & Rockets a pinky/purple finish which looked really pretty.

Do you own MUFE’s #92? What’s your favourite way to wear it?

Review: Origins Clean Energy Cleansing Oil

I have been addicted to cleansing oils since I first tried Dermalogica’s Pre Cleanse a few years ago. I love how it simplifies my evening cleansing routine by eliminating the eye makeup remover. The premise of a cleansing oil is to remove like with like. I use cleansing oils to remove lipstick, gel liners, foundation etc from my makeup brushes as well as from my face.

A few weeks ago, I picked up a bottle of Origins Clean Energy cleansing oil. I’ve been a fan of their skin care line for a while now and this is one of the few cleansers in their line that I hadn’t tried yet.

What the website says: A healthier looking future for skin begins here. This lightweight, high-tech, hybrid formula with non-comedogenic, Olive, Sunflower, Sesame and Safflower Oils removes dirt, makeup and pollutants with high efficiency. Kukui Nut and Macadamia help protect precious natural moisture resources. Vitamin E helps reduce effects of environmental hazards such as irritation that can threaten the comfort of skin. Skin breathes freely. And the energizing aroma of Grapefruit, Orange and Lemon renew your spirits.

What I think: I really like this. The oil is definitely thicker than the MAC Cleanse Off oil andĀ  the Dermalogica Pre Cleanse; it feels more like the Shu Uemura cleansing oil for sensitive skin. What I really love about Origins products is that they are now being made without: parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineralĀ  oil, paba, parafin, dea, synthetic colour, synthetic fragrance and animal ingredients. It leaves my skin feeling clean but not stripped; so much so that if I wanted to, I could skip my second cleanse and go right to my toner and hydrating moisturizer. I think that this cleanser would work really well for all skin types. If you’re more on the oily side, you may want to following with a gentle foaming for gel cleanser.

What I don’t like: I wish that the bottle came with a pump; I really don’t think that you should have to pay extra for it. I ended up re-using the MAC Cleanse Off oil bottle for it instead.

Overall: This is a pretty decent cleansing oil. It thoroughly removes all my makeup without leaving my skin feeling greasy.

This cleanser retails for $22CDN and $18US. You can find it at the Origin counters at The Bay Yorkdale, The Bay Yonge & Bloor and The Bay Queen Street in Toronto. It can also be purchased online from the Origins website.

My Latest Obsession: Loose Pigments

I’ve never really been one for loose shadows as some how I always manage to spill most of the contents on my bathroom floor. But I must say that lately I am really enjoying using these loose shadows. While going through my makeup stash, I stumbled upon my MUFE Star Powder that I bought ages ago and forgot about. As rummaged deeper in to my makeup bag, I found my sample of MACs Melon pigment as well as a sample of Blond’s Gold and Jardin Aires.
I love how pigments are so versatile. I think that my all time favourite is Vanilla; it looks amazing on everyone.
What do you think of pigments and which ones are your favourites?

Products I’m Loving

Hey Ladies!

I thought that I would share some of the products that I’ve been giving some love in the last little while.

Clinique High Definition Mascara I was cleaning out one of my drawer and found this mascara that I totally forgot that I purchased. I’ve never seen a wand like this before. How it works is you brush the mascara on like usual and then you flip over the wand and comb out the lashes. This mascara gives lot of definition and volume (for me) and I love that I don’t have to worry about clumps on my lashes. I find that you can really build with this without your lashes looking too weird.

Gosh Eyebrow Pencil This eyebrow pencil is a recent acquisition for me. I love that one end has a spoolie and the other end has the pencil. I wish that I had found this earlier; it makes doing my brows easier when I’m in a rush in the mornings.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance This eye primer is quickly becoming one of my favourites. It really does help to keep my eye shadows on all day and prevents them from creasing. I use this both personally as well as in my kit.

MAC Paint Pots Since I’ve discovered how wonderful these paint pots are, I haven’t been reaching for my Paints any more. I really love these as colour bases, especially for my more muted eye shadows. I have them in Fresco Rose, Delft, Blackground (which is great for smokey eyes)and Groundwork (sample).

What are some of the products that you’re loving? Let me know in the comments.

M.A.C. eye shadows in woodwinked, sketch, embark, corduroy, patina, arena and soba are my staples.

I love Cover Girl’s Lash Blast mascara! This is one of my all-time favourite mascara because it doesn’t clump my lashes, and adds a lot of volume.
